Push Rod Adjustment

I hope someone can help me. I have had a 98 Ultra for a copuple years and its claimed to have a stage II kit installed, minus the heads. It does have adjustable push rods, and hydraulic lifters. It has been making a washing machine noise and has been getting worse. I have taken the primary all the way down and found nothing out of the ordinary, I have traced the noise down to the lower end of the motor. So now I have it torn down to the cam and lifters. I noticed upon disassembly that the push rods were spinning freely when the pistons were at TDC. I thought this was kinda strange since it has hydraulic lifters. My question is when I re assemble the push rods how much preload do I put on them, 1 turn, 2 turns ???? I just don’t know. I don’t want to bend a valve in the process of guessing. I have looked on line till I’m cross eyed and would appreciate any help you guys could send my way.

Thanks:

First you need to find out how many TPi the pushrods are. From there we can tell you how many turns you need.

It has a 40 tpi adjustable push rod.

Those riveras? 4 complete turns to start, if a little noisey, add another turn at a time...

Make sure the pushrods spin in you hand before going from one cyl to the next. Do this on the cams base circle(per cly) as well.
