Angry Idling trouble!!

Having trouble with the wife's '99 Dyna. The bike will start and stay running if I crack the throttle to around 1500 rpm and above. But if I let go of the throttle, the bike will not idle at all and die. I installed a new battery and new plugs yesterday. Before that however, the bike had sat for about 3 months or so. I tried adjusting the idle screw but this didn't seem to help.
Any ideas? Bike is carbureted.
Thanks!

Definitely sounds like the carb low speed circuit is clogged.

Have you tried draining to bowl to get the "buggers" out?
Old gas can leave junk in there that can clog stuff. Often (but not always) a simple drain of the bowl will cure things. That's been my experience. I used to run a lot of carbed bikes. They don't like old gas.

Exclamation Draining carb bowl

Ed- do I need to remove the carb to drain the bowl? I've never messed with a carb before and I don't wanna screw it up! Step by step instructions would be nice.

Not sure what carb you have, but most have a drain plug right on the bottom. Easy to do without removal. With the S & S's that I have had, before, a handful of rags under the carb would catch the fuel (cold motor is best) and simply remove the plug. Do not overtighten when you put it back. Good chance you will have some crud come out of there!

BTW: Don't forget to close your petcock,... it would take more than a handful of rags if you were to drain your tank! LOL

Ed, nice to see you posting!!!
Thanks, BaggerDSM!!!!!
