Post 96" to 103" Build

I'm not sure which one of the Engine forums this belongs in, so please feel free to move it.

I am considering a 103" build for my 2009 RKC. I don't really need the entire kit as I already have an exhaust and intake, so I am trying to "piece together" my own kit. I will also be adding a set of SE255 cams and a heavy duty clutch spring.

Could someone that has experience doing this look over my "parts list" and let me know if there's anything that I am missing please?

16546-99 3.875" Big Bore Cylinder Kit, Black
21966-07 Cast Flat Top Piston Kit, 3.875"
25638-07 Screaming Eagle SE255 Cam Kit
18404-08 Screaming Eagle Adjustable Pushrods
37951-98 Screaming Eagle Heavy Duty Clutch Spr
16101-01 Screaming Eagle Top End Gasket Kit
17045-99c Cam Installation Kit

Thank you.

You can do without the cylinders... Just send the pistons with your original cylinders to have them bored/honed to match....

Don't invest in the Adjustable pushrods if you are planning on keeping this motor like this.... Get the "Perfect Fit" model....

If, in the future, you are going to do other mods, then by all means, stick with the adjustable model....

Why the 255 cams??? These are okay, but are you building this motor for a specific style of riding, or building to build a 103????

So, you're telling me that I can get my cylinders and pistons properly done for less than the $900 dollars that I can get that entire "kit" for at Zanottis?

As sedeluxe says, call Steve at GMR in Prescott. Good guy, this sort of thing is his bread and butter.

Ok, since everyone so far is telling me to get my existing engine overbored, why is my plan such a bad one?

Part of the reason I chose this method was due to minimal down time. Replacing the pistons, jugs, and cam can be done in a weekend. Taking the bike out to someone to machine everything takes significantly longer.

I can get the parts to do this for about $900 from Zanotti's and all of the tools to do it for about $500. Sure, that's $1,400, but the tools can be re-used when my friends need them.

Go to the Screaming Eagle Catalog Page 16 Look at the Screaming Eagle Pro Stage II 103 Kit. Part # 29893-07A or 29894-07A for 759.00List. Zannotti gives 20% off gets you to 607.00. The parts are picked out from HD so I think they would know what there doing, in regards to working together or not. In fact I'm having this installed in my bike in December so I guess I'll find out.

I didn't even notice that kit when I was looking through the catalog getting my part numbers for my "self fabbed" kit. Your advice just saved me like $150...hehehe

That will cover a goodly portion of the tools....hehehe

I appreciate that.
