Default International Model specs

Kia-Ora everyone!
I have an 09 FLSTN and have just ordered a set of V&H true duels from the US. I have Just read that International Model Harleys have an extra plug/sensor (?) on the standard exhaust.
I can see it and its bigger than the o2 sensors and is attatched to the rear of the header comming from the back port.
The questions I have are, What is this thing? And will My new pipes fit ok? Can anyone point me in the right direction to find this out even?

Cheers!

Well done, from the other side of the Commonwealth! A factory parts book usually shows the different parts used on International spec bikes. It will tell you what your sensor is, although whether it will be useful info is another thing! Your local Harley dealer should know such stuff, while most HDFers here won't have come across International bikes.

It is the active exhaust flapper valve.
You really do not need to use the V&H plug.
Seeing as you are replacing the entire exhaust, all you have to do is remove the cable.
The actuator will continue doing its thing, but will not be connected to anything.
You only need the plug when you are keeping the stock headers, and you want the actuator to hold the valve open, and the plug to prevent the error code.

Thanks GRBrown, the books on order, we normally do things backwards down here!

Exhaust flapper valve, who bloody thought of such things, no wonder the stock pipes took a forklift to carry!
New pipes are on, plugs and all... looks good !

Cheers guys!

It's a pleasure - I am just a bit further down the highway, treading the same route!

Hi, I have a Fat Boy Lo 2011 International Model. I changed the mufflers and put the V&H Shortshots Staggered. I had also to remove the Exhaust Actuator and a warning light comes up on the dash board. I heard that I should buy a device called Exhaust Actuator Eliminator. But my question is: what is the real issue with that light on the dash board, that means that it can cause any serious damage to the engine ? Can I use the bike in this condition ?
