D: you da' man....Thanks for the pics! I have had the pipes off at least three times and never saw the vent hole in the exhaust port. Then again, I never looked for it. OK...as for your info regarding the oil filter...at this point anything is plausible and I won't dismiss it. I am due for an oil change. I figured that since I was doing this goat roping/ cam swap, I would change oil after swap. Why? Using synthetic. AND...using plenty of assembly lube. Figured I would get the thing running/warmed up and then change out the oil.
Now...I have not done a pressure check on the rear cylinder but I am gambling it will be good. I am ASSUMING that the small amount of leakage I am experiencing while doing my erstwhile pressure check is the air pressure getting past the rings on a stone cold engine. I don't have guages to do a leakdown test. But I can tell you that I can pressurize that front cylinder and it pops pretty good when I shut off the air and remove the air gun. I know, I know......it isn't the proper way to do it, but if had bent a valve, and valve not seating, would I not a have a pretty "profound" leak through that valve with distinct, noticeable hissing in either the intake or the exhaust passage?
Pretty sure I am using MOCO oil filter. Nothing would surgprise me. I just do not want to tear it down. If I have to, I will. But.....
I am not going to screw with it anymore until next weekend. Thanks to you, Wurk Turk and Neonhomer. More failure analysis later.
If you had not changed the oil filter at the time of the build, then what I put in my previous post will not apply. The last situation similar to this was that a new oil filter with a bad check valve was installed at the time of the build.
Keep looking, something will eventually jump out at you and it most likely is something simple that you have looked at two or three times already.
As painful as it may be, next weekend will be pulling the camchest and starting from zero. I cannot tell you the joy that thought brings me but....a man has to do what a man has to do....I will take pics along the way and hopefully will find the fly in the ointment. Thanks again.
I have a 2011 Fat Boy with stage II added. It has a automatic pressure release valve that is stuck closed, cranks slow.... Any hints on how I get this working again. I cannot see this darn thing without taking parts off the bike?????
Pics and procedures are appreciated......
Try loosening the 6 upper rocker box cover on both heads til the cover moves freely. Then see if it will start. My rocker arm change problem was the higher radias of the arms were hitting the reinforcement webs in side the top cover. I ground them down and problem solved. Even my Harley dealer didn't figure it out.
