The FLT, the FLHT, the FLHS, and then the FLHR are all supposed to share nearly the same frame from the introduction of the FLT frame in 1980.

I have a 1980 FLT that I've converted from the FLT to FLHS style, and I would like to get rid of the stock fuel tank.

I've been told that any FLT/FLHS/FLHT/FLHR from 1980-2001 will interchange so long as it comes from a carb model, and so long as I don't mind some drilling to my frame.

Can anyone confirm what years will fit my 1980, so long as I don't mind making modifications ?

I had a tech at a dealership tell me that any early FXR tank would work, but having purchased one, I don't see any way in heck it could fit, as it just doesn't have a deep enough channel to fit the backbone of the FLT frame.

So I'd rather not go through that again.
