Default Evo, how big can you go?

It's been a long time since I have been around evo's.

My buddy wants to go over his top end soon.
He wants to know how much displacement he can add, without splitting the cases.

I was thinking .030 over bore, but have no clue what is available for cylinder size, that he can bolt on.

Anybody?

Any idea what that .040 equates to in cubic inches?

Most Evo cylinders can't take a .040 bore. It's getting a little thin that far out. Measure twice. Cut once.

Thanks Larry.

bTW: Those heads you did for me are still kicking *** and running flawlessly.
Them grooves are doing their job as well. No ill effects with plenty of test miles .

A stock engine is actually 81.6ci or 1,338cc. Plus .040 will give you 83.6ci or 1,370cc.

I appreciate that info. I'm gonna steer him toward the .030 to be a little safer. Likely a cube and a half gain, approx, guesstimating that from your numbers.

Thanks to everybody who replied.

i wouldnt bore an evo for inches, there tons of other,LOTS better ways of making power than ruining your cylinders for 3 or 4 inches,if you want more inches,do it right with 3.625 or 3.812 cylinders(compresion,a good cam & porting will get a 80"er rocking)
