Completed a oil change last week, just switched to synthetic. Was doing a walk around the bike today and observed a little dry oil at the base of the cylinder head. I whiped it with my finger and it turned it a lot darker. The bike is a '09 super glide and only has about 3,500 on it. Is is common for a small leak here?

 

is it all the way around the base or just one side or the other of the engine?

either way, no it's not common, especially with 3500 miles on the bike..

 

Is this bike still under warranty?Harley's are notorious for base gasket leaks,just not at 3,500 miles.

 

It's just on the left side where the picture was taken. Under warranty untill may of '11

Talk to the dealer and they said to keep a eye on it. He suggested probably might need a new gasket. Was wondering if this has happend to anyone else who switched to synthetic for the first time?

 

I don't think the oil had anything to do with it. It would have leaked regardless.

 

Thinking maybe the syn saved me some money down the road. Showed me the leak before my warranty was up!
