Default Cam Chest Mods For High Lift Cams

I posted this in the Touring section because that's where I normally hang out. But it didn't get much action there, so I'm posting it here, too.

I am getting ready to install new cams in my 02 FLTR and will have to do some clearance work on the bearing boss. Does anybody have pictures of how much they had to grind out?

Thanks!

what cams are you installing??

it dosnt take much. some cam chests come with open castings.

My dyna didnt though. and i had to do some careful grinding.

get some Duct tape, and mask off EVERYTHING inside, blocking off all holes and bearings.

i cut my grooves alittle too big, and made a hell of a mess. it took me over an hour to clean it........

Then, i discovered the tape method.

I'm installing the Andrews 67N conversion cams with the Herko Pro Kit. I'm hoping to get it on the road on Sunday, barring any unforeseen problems.

Well, I got the die grinder out this afternoon. All I need to do it get the modeling clay and make sure I have enough clearance. I hope I have enough time between commitments tomorrow to get the cam chest buttoned up. I'm planning on making a first ride on Sunday.

I wound up grinding more than I thought I would. I had clearance on the front cam, but next to nothing. I got the case ground, cams installed and fired it up tonight. I can't wait to ride it tomorrow. It sounds great! Thanks Herko!!!
