Default Can I still use my cams?

Got an '02 Deuce purchased 8-17-01. Had the motor completely torn down with 3900 miles on it and a 103 stroker kit installed. Bike has 18,000 on it now and I just checked the cam chain tensioners and they look fairly worn. If I purchase the HD hydraulic kit 25284-08 can I still use my SE 258 cams? Not sure if they are adaptable with the new upgraded SE cam plate. Also not sure if this year of bike had the better inner cam bearing (Torrington B-148) or not. May as well swap that while I'm in there.

Assuming your bike is currently using the stock ’02 cam plate with your SE 258 cams, yes you can use your 258 cams with the 25284-08 cam plate. This Hybrid cam plate upgrade allows you to use the older cams with the 7/8” inner cam journals and outer cam plate bearings. I’m sure your bike is using the INA inner cam bearing, regardless, swap out for a fresh pair of B-148’s.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. So the new cam plate doesn't come with new outer bearings already installed? Also is there any need to replace the lifters as well? New stock work o.k. or is there one better than the other?

The new cam plate bearings comes in a cam service kit which has to be purchased separately. The bearings do not come pre-installed in the cam plate. You can download the pdf instructions from the HD website and get a better feel what this hybrid kit consists of and what you are required to do to complete the install.

You would think with only 18K miles on the bike, the lifters would be fine, but then I was surprised to read that you said the tensioners look “fairly worn”. You really have to take the lifters apart to look for wear to determine if they need to be replaced. Most folks on this board seem to recommend sticking with the stock B lifters. But you should probably research this debate yourself.

Will go ahead and replace the lifters anyway while I'm in there with B's as I assume that is what's in there now.
Tried pulling up the parts list in the cam service kit 17045-99D and it doesn't even show a price let alone parts list. I assume it will come with the inferior INA inner bearings which I will not use as I'll go with the Torrington B-148. I'll see if I can do some digging and find out what's in the kit. May be easier to just piece together the bearings and gaskets. Thanks for your help.
