Default What can I do to my stock exhaust?

I have a 2010 Fatboy Lo and I was just wanting to know if I have to take it to the dealer if I do anything to the exhaust. When I bought the bike they told me if I changed anything I had to bring it back to them and they have to hook it up and reprogram for the new exhaust but their are others in the area that work on bikes that tell me you can put slip on's on and it would be fine with out taking it backin to the dealer. I would like to save the $300 if I can Thanks if you can help. Brad Page

Dealer is talking chit in my book. Change the pipes OR the A/C it will run ok with no tuning. Change pipes AND A/C then you need a tune. Just my opinion.
I am sure others will have input as well.

And welcome to the forums!!

Good Luck!

Hey Brad, do your research man. Don't listen to any one person. Will the bike run fine without a tune if you only throw on a slip-on? yeah probably - but the real question is will it cause any discoloring. I added a "slip-on" muffler after the dealer themself told me no tuning or download was needed. Did it and in three days the entire pipe was yellowed. This may not be the case with your bike, but research research and MORE research. I only lucked out cuz the dealer was wrong. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

I've been reading on this a and still haven't decided what to do for four months now. I've only seen a couple of people who have had problems without doing retuning like out LMmarine86, but most who have just done slipons without tuning have been fine. Make sure you check out the Xied option that is much cheaper and many say works great. I didn't even know they existed until yesterday on this forum.

I've had the same questions about changing exhaust on my 2010 Heritage. The Rush slip on muffler with a 1 3/4" or at most a 2" baffle has been recommended by my Harley dealer, an independent Harley service center and the Rush Co. as being the best fix without having to do any other changes to the air and fuel. The best price I have found on the Rush slip ons was from "bikersgarage.com" for $159.99 and up per pair. Others have advised me that I could use any slip on muffler and not have to make any other changes. Mostly likely I will go with the Rush slip ons for now and do the stage 1 later.
