Piston/ Cir Clip
Has anybody ever heard of a cir clip coming off from the rist pin on a piston and scoring the cilinder wall? only 8000 miles on SE heads n jugs CNC ported done by dealer. has 102 HP 98 Torque, they still have it since 05-24-11 they couldnt figure out the noise I was hearing on decelleration , the second I heard it , very small sound but different, I shut down and got towed to dealer. they took top end apart and put back together after grinding cover for more clearance and it got louder ? so they put it on back burner and let it sit. Im peed off, half of summer gone. got over 30k in to it and would like to ride. 2006 Heritage all Black and Chrome, Diamond cut Heads n Jugs, Twisted Spokes, VH Shorts, Sweet Ride. They want to bore ten thous over on on that cyl only and put one new piston in it and I dont think that is a good Idea , arent they Weighted diff. Im a Carpenter not Mechanic so maybe you guys would Know? Would appreciate any input any body might have . Thanks Guys

Hey Prodrag do you think it is ok to bore 10,000 over and put a new Piston and rings on that side only like they want to do or should I insist that they keep it equal and do both seeing that I /We have to buy a set? Not sure what they are going to charge me because they said maybe if I had this problem at 3000 miles they could do something but at 8000 miles there is no warranty, time to find a new dealer I guess...Thanks again Kirby

As Kirby says, they didn't put the circlip in properly on the install and you should be rasing nine kinds of hell as that is clearly a workmanship issue and should be covered as a warranty item. If the circlip was installed properly, it would not have come out.
Don't let them bore one cylinder and not the other; I can't believe they even suggested that. If you are going to have to pay for the repair, find someone else or do the work yourself. Don't pay those monkeys to screw up again!

The only way they come out is if they are not installed correctly, or you have a bent rod, side-loading the wrist pin.
On a side note, many S&S kits did/have teflon, or aluminum buttons, that went in the wrist pin bore, in the piston, to totally negate the use of the clips.
We always liked those.
