Dent in gas tank? Help!

I was just washing my bike and the bike started to lean towards me, kickstand was not totally secured. In uprighting the bike I must have had something in my pocket and put a dimple, dent, in the gas tank. the dent is about the size of a half dollar, just a slight depression. No scratches or damage to the paint. Does anyone know if this can be popped out or do I have to spring for a new gas tank? It's breaking my heart to look at it. Any help would be appreciated.

Check out some of the paintless dent repair people in your area, Dr Dent, Dent solution, and others, If it is in an area where they can get into from the opening and the dent is minimal, they may be able to help. Usually the tanks are too thick to be able to work them out but you never know.

TCSTD is correct, a lot of the paintless dent repair guys will not touch a motorcycle gas tank due to the thickness of the metal. My GF had a nice dent in her Sportster tank and I called a few shops in my area until I found a guy to do the job. He was hesitant to tell me he could totally remove the dent but, at least he was willing to try, he did a perfect job on it...we couldnt be happier. I did have to remove the tank and take it to him though.

RE: Dent in gas tank? Help!

I've talked to a few paintless dent repair guys about the same problem. I have a dent about an inch and a half across on the top of my tank. I haven't taken the time to have it fixed but most have indicated that it is fixable. There are variables on how well the repair will work, for example a kinked edge will almost never be fixable. If it's just a smooth ding it shouldn't be a problem. Most of the guys I have talked to indicated that they would use one of the glue on pullers rather than trying to push the dent out because of the coating on the inside of the tank.

I dont know where you live but I've used this guy in Colorado a few times and he does great work. I actually had a bunch of hail damage (about 30 dents).
