Question Twin Cam S&S carb guys, where is your MAP sensor???

:nix: I just snuck out and removed my S&S Super G carb and manifold to get it ready for the Mikuni HSR42 swap. On the S&S intake was nothing but a vacuum hose fitting, with a vacuum hose hooked to it. Since bike is in my shed at the moment, and rain soon started pounding down, I headed for dry ground.

Looking at the new Mikuni intake there is a place to mount the MAP sensor, and the HD service manual clearly says that there is a MAP sensor mounted on the stock, factory 2000 model year intake, but as I found out, there isn't even a place to mount a MAP sensor on the S&S G intake so I need some help here.

Since a MAP sensor has to see vacuum, where the heck can it be???

I didn't have time to unbolt the tank (before it started raining) and see where the S&S intake's vacuum hose went, so I am at a loss for the moment...

Can anybody shed some light on this?

Why do you need a MAP sensor with a carb?

Like the EVO engine used the VOES to adjust timing automatically, the Twin Cam uses a MAP sensor instead. That's how the engine load is sensed.

FWIW, we figured out that for whatever reason my bike had an EVO intake on it, and the MAP sensor was tucked up under the gas tank. I just need to re-locate the MAP sensor back to the stock location on the new Mikuni intake.

Well, I just learned something. I thought a MAP sensor was a fuel injection thing. That's where thought got me. Thanks
