Default cam wear

In the process of upgrading TC 88 to SE hydraulic cam chain tensioners and found more wear on stock cams that I anticipated. I have a 01 FLHR with 29,000 miles. Does this amount of wear look normal? It is not rough to the touch, but definitely does not look like new.

Should I replace these cams?

If I upgrade to new cam and lifters, any recommendations for mild upgrade keeping stock pushrods, etc. I have Mikuni 42 and D&D two into one exhaust.

thanks for any help!

Looks like the cam lobes did not take the case hardening very well. What did the lifter rollers look like? A set of Andrews 21 or 26 cams with new lifters will wake things up.

The rollers looked better, although one had a visible line (could not feel ridge) running all the way around the roller.

thanks for the recommendation on the new cams, I'll check out they lifters also.

21's with your 2n1 is a nice 88" combo for low to mid tq increase.

Even if they look perfect, replace them. That is is you want a huge performance and ridability improvement!!

We've seen those on 1 bike of that vintage, (with only 1200 miles) that had grooves cut into the lobes approx .060" deep.
Andrews 26's are a great choice, and you can build from them, later, if so desired.

Agree with djl and Hillside. Andrews 21 or 26, new lifters, new inner cam bearings and a set of adjustable pushrods.
