Default Spacer on Compensator nut?

Putting my 99 TC back together and my Clymer manual references a spacer right behind the compensator nut-It says " 99 and 2000 model years only" Pretty sure there wasnt one there when i took it apart. Anyone confirm that there should or should not be one? and if so, what thickness ?

Thank you

Check 95custmz thread; some good information there.

Just to be sure, there is a spacer between the compensator assembly and the rotor to align the engine sprocket with the clutch sprocket. There are 10 different thicknesses.

I don't believe there are any differences in the primaries from '99-'06 and there is no spacer between behind the comp nut, i.e., between the comp nut and cover assembly. I would not trust the Clymer manual; get the OEM service manual and the parts manual.

The early TCs did have problems with the comp nut coming loose even if torqued to spec. The MoCo came up with, I think, three different thickness spacer to fit between the comp nut and outer cover to address the issue. The issue was that the comp nut would bottom out under the specified torque before developing the necessary clamping pressure to keep the assembly together. Before the MoCo came up with the shims, guys were shortening the comp nut by shaving .030" off the end. Either way would work, shorten the comp nut or add the shim behind the comp nut; same effect.

We chuck that nut in one of our lathes here, and zip .125" from the face of it.
Plenty of room at that point.
