Default How often do you clean the throtte body?

Just wondering how often any of you take your air cleaner off and spray out the throttle body, IAC and TPS mechanism?

Never seen it get dirty in there and ive eliminated all sources of oil. If your is getting dirty check your air filter!

I know 2007 models have the tendency to have a lot of oil spray from the motor and mine is one of them. I can ride 500 or so miles and when I take off the air cleaner there will be some oil that has accumulated on the bottom of the throttle body. There never is any dirt. So I have a monthly routine of spray cleaning it out.

You might want to look into re routing your breathers so oil doesnt get in the intake. That oil causes carbon build up in the engine and thats not good. Second thing is getting rid of the K&N air filter for something better. IMO.

What air filter would you suggest? I actually thought the K&N was top notch! I'm definitely open to advice. Also, how would I re-rout the system to keep the oil from getting in there?

The newest SE synthetic media filter is dry and washable. It filters out a lot more dirt and doesn't have oil in it which attracts dirt. Oil and gauze type filters degrade over time. Clean your K&N and hold it up to the light. Over time you will see small gaps in it. Ive had these discussions with K&N and they will not publicly admit the synthetic filter is better but independent testing prove it.

As far as re routing the breathers I use the DK Outlaw backing plate that vents to atmosphere but I have modified my engine to reduce the oil exiting the breathers. There are multiple threads on how to re route your breathers to the ground or a small separate filter if yours has a drip issue.
