Hello HD-forums,

I've bought a set of 39mm forks that came disassembled, however everything was there and was in good shape. Now that I'm assembling it I noticed a different no the bottom of the inside of the fork lower/leg. One leg (the right side) is flat at the bottom, while the other one has kind of a cup. The fork stop that goes on the end of the damper rod bottoms out against the "cup", so the left side leg seems to have more travel than the right side? I've looked at some Ebay listings for both right and left side lowers, but none of them seem to have the "cup" I'm describing here - so my general question is; is this even factory? Do I just slap the forks together? In my mind it would be totally wrong because it would require two different spacers, and oil volumes would be different also (assuming you're measuring from the top).
Both legs have G577-R/L cast into them so I would assume they're matched, but one SA-2 and the other one has SA-3.

Anyways, what do I do in this case?

I have a 2014 Ultra and the other day I loosened up my neck bearing because the new one was installed too tight by the tech and didn’t have time to take it back to him. I loosened the single pinch bolt on the steering tube, but forgot to undo the 2 pinch bolts on the forks. I loosened up the neck bearing with the 1/4” extension and got the correct swing established. After doing it that night I realized I forgot to undo the fork pinch bolts and am now worried I may have possibly stripped the steering stem threads or caused any other issues. Is this something I should be concerned about or are chances good everything is okay and the triple tree was able to slightly slide along the forks. Thanks!

I’m going to replace the stock front brake line on my 16" ape Fat Boy. For sizing, should I get a +8" or +10" line? I’m curious, braided steel lines probably don’t follow the same routing as OEM, right? The OEM line is longer and loops over the fender before going to the left-side caliper. Should the braided line instead run directly down to the left caliper?

Clean Handlebar Install on ‘05 Road King – Hidden Clutch Cable Possible?

Hey guys,

Just picked up a set of Carlini 14” Gangster Apes for my 2005 Road King Classic (fuel injected) and I’m trying to go for a really clean install.

My plan is to tuck the throttle cables, wiring, and clutch cable as much as possible for that super clean look. I already picked up an internal throttle kit from Offramp Customs (still wire not TBW) along with some CycleSmith Shredder grips for the electric throttle setup.

I know internal wiring and hidden throttle setups are pretty common, but I’m curious about the clutch side specifically.

Has anyone here successfully tucked or hidden the clutch cable on a cable-clutch Touring bike without converting to a hydraulic clutch? My concern is the stock cable is obviously much thicker and harder to hide cleanly compared to wiring and throttle cables.

If it’s possible, what route/setup did you use?

Different cable?

Custom routing?

Behind the nacelle/frame somehow?

Any pics would be awesome.

Trying to decide if I should attempt to hide the cable setup or just bite the bullet.

Also, any recommendations on cable lengths or install tips for 14” apes on an ‘05 RK would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm in the process of doing a fluid and pad change on the front of my 2020 Street Bob and I'm having trouble bleeding them. I've never done it on this bike but have on several others. I'm using the mityvac to pull the fluid and I have it to where there's almost no bubbles but have nothing at the lever. Note that when I started this process I accidentally pushed a piston out. I don't know the internals of a caliper and that is why I came here. Am I not being able to bleed them because the piston pushed out? One piston does move slightly as the pic shows.

Hi, I have a 2006 Fat Boy EFI. The front brake master cylinder is leaking brake fluid from the lever side. I disassembled the system, bought an original rebuild kit, cleaned everything, and reassembled it, but the leak continued. I removed the piston and noticed a nick/damage on it, which I believe is the cause of the leak.

I found a used upper brake master cylinder. The cover says “use only DOT 5 brake fluid,” but my system uses DOT 4. What should I do? Can I clean it and use it with DOT 4?

I have an OEM rebuild kit. If I clean the 45006-96C master cylinder body, can I use DOT 4? I can remove the DOT 5 marking on the cover.

The second option is a 2015 Breakout brake master cylinder that the seller is offering as a set. It’s 9/16, single-disc, and non-ABS. Can I use this set on my Fat Boy?

Thank you,Enjoy the ride.

1999 FXSTC Softail custom

Tell me everything you know about "fall away" ?

I understand the mechanics and the principle of it, in that you're trying to Center the front end so that it is equal for both sides left and right in terms of the distance before it falls away.

What is the main purpose though?

Is it to get the Fork stem to a certain torque?

In some cases, it might be an issue of getting the lengths of each Fork equal, in other words some models the forks may go all the way up through the top bracket of the Triple Tree, while others get seated into the top tree where they can't go through it, It's a fixed position.

In my manual there is no torque number given for the stem nut .

I bought this for $23 on Amazon, it made the world of difference on my 22 Street Glide Special. I looked to see if there were other posts on this subject so forgive me if there was I couldn't find them.

I was having an issue with wind buffeting my helmet at 80 km/h (50 mph) and up wanted to first start with the least obvious (can't see it unless you look) and cheap fix. This worked incredible.

I was dreading putting on "fork fangs" I personally don't like the look and I notice 50% of the ones I see people put them on backwards LOL.

Anyways, thought I'd post if anyone has my model bike with wind buffeting issues, it stopped that horrible rush of air between the front of the tank and instrument cluster. What a nice change now on the highway.

I have heard people say it made things worse, etc. for my model worked great.
