Default Rear brake disk

99 FXSTC has developed a strange scraping noise on a hard rear brake stop. It pulses like it's disk related, though it sounds like its coming from the drive belt side. I pulled the wheel and it looks like the disk is a little but dish shaped, i.e. somewhat concave in the center. Is that correct?

No, it should be dead flat. If it is dished that could be the cause of the noise. Sounds as if the disc has taken a knock at some time, which has put it out of true.

Thanks. I took it off and showed it to the HD dealer who said the same. I've owned the bike since new so I know it has never been hit. Had to have warped from brake dragging, but the mechanic told me he'd never seen one warped that badly. I've since been through the caliper and master cylinder so I hope the problem won't recur.

Thumbs up

With everything refreshed all should be fine now! Plenty of miles and smiles ahead!
