Default Check your shock setting?

I've been buying and selling Sportsters as a hobby and to make a little side money. I'm blown away by the guys who buy a bike meant for solo riding (883 Low, Nightsters, 48s, etc.) and set them up to ride their wives on the back and don't know to stiffen the shock preload. Of course it's going to bottom! Of course their wives are going to hate it! Of course the bike is going to handle like crap! Of course they are going to sell it to me cheap because they just want to get rid of it! I wonder if they had cranked up the pre-load, they would've enjoyed the ride more enough to keep the bike? I bought a 48 in July and the seller handed me the manual pack - he had never opened it!

Ok, done ranting, but just wanted to point this out to bring awarenenss and maybe whoever reads this will mention proper shock setup to rides they see out there in this situation. It will benefit the Harley community.
