rotor replacement??????

need to replace the rear rotor on my 2014 SGS. I see Harddrive replacement rotors on ebay for $63 shipped. anyone ever use them? j and p has other brands for $140 or so. like $63 better but obviously not if theyre junk.

parts ain't parts.

however, people will spend extra $$$$$ for a name. so the only thing is to see what they are made of, if truth is told. chinese can/can not be good, depends upon who holds their feet to the fire. that said, major auto mgf use crappy parts in my book especially for service parts like brakes. years past, nissan had extremely good rotors but now they are crapola. i can park over nite and they rust causing noise on first go, yes, the do stop but will not last as time past. if this is rice, lord help us on domestic. you get what you pay for so a dogalac vs a pinto come with diff quality.
my take??? if they follow factory spec's, give then a try. some days a pigeon and some a statue. research is good because if the say stainless, what grade as some will rust and become unsightly.

Those Harddrive rotors might just work fine, but maybe a little step-up would a Wilwood Rotor for around $100. I haven't used them, but Wilwood is a good name and plenty on here have used them...

FWIW, They also have them in Black

thx for the thoughts! looks like i need to do more research. i believe my oem rotor has an abs "pickup" or sensor, correct?

multihdrdr 02-12-2018 06:59 PM

The ABS Encoder is in your wheel bearings and the sensor "Pick-up" is in your wheel spacer/sensor combo. Your Rotor is the same with or without ABS. That "button" you see on your rotors has nothing to do with the ABS system.

The Rotor I pointed out and the Harddrive rotors you indicated will work. Make sure you select a 11.8" and it is a "Rear"...they are thicker than the Fronts

The Dealer says my rear brake disc is p/n 41797-00 for my 07 Road King. Looking elsewhere for options, I notice that almost all 2000-2007 bikes use the same p/n 41797-00 whether its a Sportster, Dyna, Electra, Road King etc., but as I look closer, I find many with additional stamping under the part number such as 6S, 3D, 2N, 6t, etc. Question is: are they all compatible or not? They have the same dimensions of 11.5" and a minimum thickness of .205". Just curious if any of you can help with my confusion? Thx...
