I bought
Lyndall Brakes Z-Plus Brake Pads Rear 7157-Z+ Lyndall Brakes Z-Plus Brake Pads Rear 7157-Z+
from J & P Cycles and paid a shop to install them. Not sure if they did, these look like OEM that are still on there? "Hayes"

I would Not have used that Link for your example ... WRONG Picture (which can be normal), but CORRECT part# for your 99-earlier Rear Caliper (can lead to a bunch of crappy responses )

"Hayes" as in original name "Kelsey-Hayes" (it looks like they may have renamed to just Hayes) was the original caliper manufacturer.

To answer your question, I personally would call Lyndall to to check if they happen to use Hayes Backing Plates to apply their friction material to
(which would seem odd and doesn't really make sense, but )

In Person, how's the Friction Material look (and actually whole pad) ...New?

Personally, I've never held a Lyndall Pad, so I can't Draw on that. So...

Not being there, I would lean towards NOT being Lyndall, but I would investigate first

.

I don't believe that Lyndall make their own parts, so it is just possible that they purchase from Hayes.

Here's how you can tell if they're Lyndall Z Plus pads. Hose down the rear caliper with water from a garden hose, thoroughly. Start the bike, head down the nearest open road, wind it up to 60mph and step on the rear brake. If the first thought in your mind is "Oh sh*t my brakes went out!", they're Lyndall Z Plus pads. I think there's a video of a guy on a Sportster using the Lyndall Z Pus Foot pads around here somewhere

Now, humor aside, to be sure you're gonna have to remove them and look. That's really the only way. Sir G is right, Lyndall doesn't make brake pads, they use suppliers and re-brand them.

I sent the pics to Lyndall and received a response. The Hayes pads are OEM pads and they recommended I find a new mechanic!

Hmm ... what did I tell ya

It really would have made No sense for Lyndall to use the Hayes backing plates for several reasons

But a Major Reason is... Why on Earth would Lyndall want someone else's name on their Brake Pads?

Thanks for the Update

Here's your 7157-Z Pads ... See any "Hayes" on there ... No

So what your saying is you paid a shop to install the pads that you supplied and they put something else on, or maybe didnt change out your pads at all? You should post the name of that shop right here. Theres NO excuse for a rip off and they should be called out as such.
