I got a set of rims from an '07 Heritage which had 1" bearings on the front rim. I bought a set of 3/4" bearings that go in 00-06 FB and Heritage rims to swap out and use on my 00 FB. The bearing on the right side (non rotor side) went in beautiful but the bearing on the rotor side looks like it needs to go in about another 3/16" and when I mounted it up it pulled my inside pistons on my caliper in about that much. I asked the guy if he got it pressed in all the way and he said yes, but it just does not make sense to me that one side of the rim would be slightly deeper than the other side. I am going to pull that bearing and look and see if there is something holding it off from getting fully seated.

I was wondering if anybody else has swapped a newer rim with 1" bearing and changed over to the 3/4" sealed bearings and had this problem?

 

Did the correct bearing spacer get installed?????

Prolly not.... In the new bearing kit is 3 different sizes of spacers, to cover a myriad of applications...

the spacer is in there and has a little bit of wiggle room laterally so i know the spacer is not holding it off

 

But is it the RIGHT/CORRECT spacer???.... That is the question.....

 

the spacer is out of my stock fatboy rim, i dont know if it is the correct spacer, but i do know that it is for a 3/4" axle and that it is not too long which is the only reason that the spacer would prevent a bearing from being fullypressed in.

 

On my '07 Deluxe, the left bearing (brake side) is installed first until it fully seats against a lip on the inside of the wheel hub. Then the spacer goes in, followed by the right bearing which seats against the spacer. If right bearing went in first, it could be sitting to0 deep into the hub, which would throw the disk side off.
Might try taking the bearings out and start the install from the left side.

I'm about to put a front wheel 07 Profile rim off a RKonmy custom dresser. The front endhas 3/4" axle, I've questioned the crap out of the parts guy and he can not help my with the bearing set I need to convert. Might 99 Road King bearings have the sameoutside diameter as 07? Any help here will be highly appreciated.

Rear wheel is no prob, installed an 06 swing arm on 99 tranny. Well had to modify tranny as it was 5/8" pivot rod and bored it to the necessary 3/4". That's another story.

 

I just pulled the brake side bearing and took the spacer out and pressed the bearing back in and it stopped at the same point as it did with the spacer in there, i.e. it is all the way against the back stop and it still sticking out just a little too far. I have got the HD bearings sitting right next to each other and the 3/4" bearing is about 1/4" thicker than the 1" bearing. I figured they made up for this with wider spacers that go on the outside of the bearing. HD has been no help since they originally told me that the part # for '07 and '00 front bearings were the same. I have called 3 differentdealerships and they said just remove the 1" bearing and install the 3/4" bearing.

I guess I am going to have to machine down my spacer on that left side so it will let my wheel move to the left slightly or get rid of this '07 rim and get an '00-'06 front rim off a heritage or deluxe

 

I put a rim from an 07 train on my 02 softail.Got a 3/4 inch bearing kit from the dealer (they will know what you are talking about when you ask them)it consists of two bearings and the inner collars.My bearing also stuck out too far like it was not in far enough.The problem is not that.Its that the inner collar does not contact the bearing races and moves around.When you tighten the front wheel it distorts the bearing and binds.You need to put spacers between the bearing and inner collar.I used flat washers and machined them to the proper thickness to take that play out of the collar to bearing.I had to knock the bearing in an out a few times to get the play perfect.Pain in the *** buti eventually got it.Play with it enough and youll see what i mean.
