Hey guys I'm trying to figure out what hooks up to this bottom oil feed fitting on my S&S motor. I'd assume it's the vent line from the crankcase to the air filter but the issue is my stock air cleaner is getting replaced with an S&S teardrop cleaner. Here are a few pics. The fitting that's on it now is literally butting up against my transmission cases. You will have to look hard to see but yeah the two fittings up top are obvious but that bottom one on the crankcase is confusing me.
Ok. If you look closely in the background you'll see a oil line fitting right below the front of the transmission case. It's right below the silver one in the background. It looks a little different than the other fittings. It's on the crankcase on the motor itself (not on the oil pump). Literally coming out of the crankcase. I don't know what to do with that fitting. I heard it was a crankcase vent but what to plug into? Or where? Just the atmosphere?

open to atmosphere, shovel is a bottom breather. It's common for oil to pass by the check valve in the oil pump and end up in the sump when the bike is not in use for a month or so. When you start up the engine some oil in the sump will come out this vent, it's normal. Some of us run a long vent hose up the right side of the bike, across the bike under the seat and out the left side and down along the frame. This keeps the "sumped " oil in the long line and will be sucked up out of the sump when the bike is running. Some run a short hose from the vent and leave it under the bike but this can get messy if and when the engine sumps after a long lay up. Some bikes sump after only a few weeks of non use,
I use the long vent hose method and have not has a mess from sumped oil since, even after a month of non use.
I appreciate the feedback! I will say that this isn't a shovelhead though but an Evo. S&S Titan motor. Maybe I got confused because my last Evo which was a Dyna had an oil line routed from the bottom of the transmission to the bottom of the crankcase. I also had a breather filter hooked up at one point in time...so maybe thats what I could put in place instead of a hose. This is an Fxr so there isn't any line from the bottom of the transmission cases cause obviously the oil tank is upwards on the bike.

yeah, I saw that fitting that looks like it comes from the case and I went into shovelhead mode. I just went and looked at my 94 FXLR and that fitting in your pic is not on my 94. I did look in the 93-94 FXR service manual and didn't see it either. Maybe a previous owner thought venting the crankcase was a good idea and added it? If you attach a hose to that fitting long enough to put your finger over the end with the motor running then it may give you a clue what it was intended to do.
Yeah I'm not sure either. I do know that this is a 99 S-S Sidewinder Titan motor that came off a Titan chopper so I was thinking it might have been specific for that bike but I think I did see a photo with a small filter attached to the bike. It's like a small air filter but hooks up to an oil line then attaches somewhere neatly either near or around the transmission or near/on the motor near where a oil pressure gauge would be. I think that's it but I'll definitely double check before trying
