Leaky loose Softail oil cap

GF's Deluxe oil cap is ridiculously loose. Popped out at a traffic stop and belched hot oil on her leg. This has got to be fixed. Any aftermarket solutions? Maybe need a new cap? The rubber plunger looks good, maybe 5 years is the limit?

Sounds like to much oil to me .

Just find an "O" ring that is thin and will fit tight. That's what I did to my oil cap and it's nice and snug now.

You could get a new one with a temperature gauge on it!

The chinese rubber shrunk. Mine was the same- replaced with new one

go to a hardware store plumbing department. they have hundreds of different size O rings. i found a big around and very thin ring and put it around the rubber on the stick. i think it cost about 30 cents. take the plug to the store and fit the O ring there.

i agree how close did this occur to the last oil change
was the engine warmed up to temp, when the oil was changed
was the old oil drained completely
it is very easy to wind up with to much oil

All good ideas, but I suspect the rubber is old and has shrunk. If the cap isn't a tight fit in the filler neck, replace it. This happened to me some years back. It was at night, so I didn't notice until I got home. Entire right side of the bike was covered with oil.
