Default 2002 Road King Swing Arm Pivot shaft replacement

I am about to embark on replacing the Swing Arm pivot shaft etal. Have purchased a kit from J&P Cycles which includes pivot shaft, bearings, spacers, motor mounts etc.
The bike has 200,000 miles on it and a couple of years ago I had the pivot shaft off the bike and found the left nut and a spacer to be rusted to the shaft. I got the spacer loose but the nut to this day is welded to the shaft so I figured it is about time to renew things.

Do you all have any words of wisdom as to how to replace bearings etc and what to avoid making this a enjoyable project instead of a nightmare?

PS: I am also trying to up my post count so I can view pictures etc.

Subscribed. If nothing else, let us know how it turned out. I might look into doing this some day.

It's a very simple swap. Follow the instructions that came with the kit. I got my kit from Drag Specialties, can't imagine there is much difference. A lift table is a big help.

Without the 'nightmares' you will have nothing interesting to talk about...

Good luck with it. I'm interested also, since I've been trying to talk myself into doing that on my '99 RK for the last two years.

When I did mine, we used a hydraulic press and an arbor press at a friend's place. Worked great for changing the bearings.

Wish I had that capabilities. Will try with BFH and sockets etc.. Baring success I have an INDY close by that will do the work for me.

I got the feeling the "Nightmares" are going to be replacing the bearings since they are pressed in and I do not have the proper tools. Possibly Autozone loaner program will help here.
