Trouble shooting 2005 Softail
Hi
I ride a 2005 Softail with fuel injection. When the bike is cool, it starts fine, and can ride all day. If I turn it off and let it sit for say 15 minutes, I seem to have what I think is a fuel problem. The bike will sputter, backfire through the air cleaner chamber, does not have enough power to drive, and stales. It will start fine, but runs really badly. If I turn the throttle it just stales. This will go on for 20-30 minutes, then clear and run fine. If I leave it overnight it runs fine the next day.
Anyone got any suggestions?

I would start to with checking with the dealer for any service bulitins on the issue.
it could be a leaking injector, or a problem with one of the imput sensors. or the ECU itself.
With a leaking injector it would run ok when cold, like the choke on a carbed bike. But loads up like a mother when its hot! OR......
If the crank position sensor for say, had a bad conection internaly it might exibit a "open circuit"
symtom when the engines heat expands the internal parts.
these are purly speculations at this time but it should give you a place to start.
