Default Iron Butt Rally is Underway

The Iron Butt Rally has begun.
First indications are Harley is better represented this year than anytime in recent past.
2 time winner of the Hoka Hey is running the rally on his Harley also.

For those that really don't understand the IBR, take a look at this link. About half way down it does a very good job of explaining what it is and what is required:

Updates, spotwalla tracking of entrants and pics are here:
http://ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2015.cfm

I've seen the stat before but it is noteworthy that more people have orbited the earth in outer space than have completed the IBR.
This year a 79 year old gentleman is running the rally. It is his third IBR. 79 years old and looking at 12,000-14,000 miles in 11 days. That has to be one tough old man.
He's gotta be the long shot but I'm pulling for him...

The rally is by invitation or qualified random drawing only. Just by making the starting line you are one of the finest endurance riders in the world.

That's a one helluva Rally. I don't know of anyone who's ever gotten a invite. You're one tough rider yourself there bro.

You have to rely on their family members for updates. A lot of riders go 'dark' as they just don't have the time to post updates.

Damnit...
I knew some riders could go dark, but if they do, I believe they have to start keeping their fuel receipts. There was a new rule put in place with regards to SPOT.
I've figured out which tracker is Will Barclay (winner of the Hoka Hey) because he took a very strange route east and then turned south. Until he mixes back in with a crowd, I will be able to follow him. He has pounded out some serious miles early on his Harley.

Thanks for the info and updates. I found out about the IBA just after the '13 rally, so it's neat to follow this one.
