Does a Stage 3 tune add value?

Hi, Looking at buying a Fat Boy here in the UK and found a lovely bike, 2009 that has a Screamin Eagle Stage 3 Pro TC 103 1690 upgrade from 1584.

Has this added value to the bike or would it detract from the bike because it has been messed with? It was professionally fitted. Should I be paying a premium for the tune?

The bike is perfect otherwise.

Also any feeling on whether it is a good upgrade to have on a Fat Boy?

Cheers,

Its a good upgrade, how many miles on the bike?

It has 14,000 and regularly serviced. I am not sure when it was fitted though - would it make a difference?

Stage 3 upgrades are a lot more then just a tuner

It has had cams, bore, air filter, pipes etc. It is a full stage 3

Being a newbie interested to hear if it is seen as a positive that adds value or might be seen as a motor that has been messed with and lower the value.

From what I have seen, which granted everyone has their own viewpoint, modifications of any type don't really add $$ value to a bike.

So in the US we have Black Book (Dealer trade value) and Blue Book (Private owner/seller value). The Black Book value is what most dealers will accept as a trade, and it is influenced by miles, condition, market availability, etc. Blue Book is similar, but private buyers will often be willing to pay more.

Ok, to cut it short: The dealer will look at the book value of the bike, and depending on the mod might if they feel generous, give you a higher end trade on their typical price. A private buyer may be talked into a higher price, but they are still considering a range based on the typical value for that year bike in that same condition.

So ultimately, mods of any type don't value...they may help retain value.

Speaking only for myself; a Stage 3 upgrade would certainly interest me however I don't think I'd pay more for the bike because of it.
That being said, I don't think it would decrease the value any.

To the buyer "positive" if you want it "negative" if you don't. To a dealer "neutral" when trading for it "positive" when selling it. Simple

It would be a benefit to me if I was planning on doing the same set up at some point. I'd have to know who did it in case of any future problems.

I think it devalues it.

When was the last time you heard of someone upping the performance of their motor only to ride it like it was stock?
