My problems with S100 cleaner...
Those who know me here in these forums know I am NOT quick to complain about just anything. However I have a problem with the past two purchases of S100 cleaner. Both purchases were the quart size spray bottles. The sprayer component of the bottles broke after just one use on both bottles. In addition, although the cleaner works fairly well, the cleaner leaves a heavy film on the bike which is fairly obvious on dark colors such as my black bike. This film might be hard to detect on lighter color bikes. The problem with the film is that it is difficult to remove and can not be rinsed off with clean water. In fact I normally need to wipe the bike down multiple times to remove the film.
I am sorry about the negativity but I just wanted to share my experience with this cleaner. Has anyone else experienced this? |

The bike needs to be squeaky clean before you apply it since S100 is a sealer. We never rinse ours after applying it and my engine looks better than new.

I am talking about the cleaner not the engine brightener as I suspect you are referring to.
Oops sorry, yes I was. We buy stuff to clean our engines from the corvette guy across the alley. It's like $130 for 5 gallons. I think it's actually a wheel cleaner. I'll check with Dan to make sure and see if I can get a product name for you. |
Never had a problem with it. I have a few of the smaller bottles that I usually refill with the gallon jug. Contact them and see what happens. Ya never now.

Could be a bad batch of spray bottles. My last one broke too. i thought maybe it has something to do with my hanging them from the trigger....

I used S100 on my Softail back in the 90's. The white residue is still on there.

My problems with S100 cleaner...
I've had the same issue with last 2 sprayers... And I have some spots on my rims that I attribute to S100 and not getting them completely washed off. I just don't use it anymore, not willing to take the chance.

I have only had problems when I wash at my friends house with hard well water, even with the softener pellets, city water no problem. Maybe its because they put fluoride in the city water. j/k

I use S100 on my cast wheels only. It works fairly well. Gets the cast "nooks and crannies" reasonably clean as I use an old paint brush for agitation. I have seen the residue on my tank as it's burgundy in color. I hit it with a full force stream of water and that seems to remove it. The stuff does a decent job of cleaning wheels and engine cases.
|
I use S100 as a pre-soak before washing the bike with soap and "soft" water, when the metal is cool before I ride it.
|
Contact the company, I'm thinking they'll appreciate the feedback and will likely want to make things right.
|
I too have had too many s100 spray nozzles crap out after a few uses. Never again, switched to hd clean/polisher.
|
I didn't have the bottle break but residue was left on my bike. I probably didn't rinse hard or long enough to get it all off. I only used it one time last Fall. I think I'm going to get some car wash to try.
|
I've used it a couple times but think it's garbage. I prefer the old fashioned car wash soap and a soft mitt and elbow grease. I have an almost full spray bottle free to anybody that wants it.
|
I only use it on the fins, engine & tranny case & other places "where the sun don't shine", & rinse it off stat. Works well for cleaning them I think.
I clean painted surfaces & chrome the old fashion way, car wash & warm water, don't want to take a chance on spotting. |
Thanks
Thanks everyone for chiming in and it's good to know that I am not the only one nor is it my imagination.

Ditto! The spray triggers are now crap. went to walmart got new spray bottle and dumped the s100 into that, works fine. This is the second bottle with a bad trigger sprayer. I'm done with s100. Just my .02 worth

I've been using it for many years. I never had any issues on my black bike or the engine. I always wash it in the shade. I also rinse it off quickly & shammy it before it sets too long. Just my 2 cents.

I used it on my old bike and it gave me these little brown dots on my handle bars. I tossed the bottle in trash after that!!!!
