Headlamp shaking

I decided to fit the headlamp from my 2009 Softail Custom to my Breakout as I wanted something in chrome and to look a bit bigger. The unit was only in my old bike for about 12 months and 4k miles. Problem is it shakes around and the beam from the Daymaker I fitted looks ridiculous at night. The cowl attaches to a 3 bolted rubber mounted plate inside which attaches to the triple tree. I'm thinking the rubbers could have hardened thus reducing the damping affect or I have the three bolts too tight.
Can't think of anything else. Any ideas guys? Thanks |
Since I installed the visor trim ring on my 05 FXST, the headlight shakes like crazy. I just live with it as long as the mount doesn't break.

Thanks http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...bration-damper https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...l#post13529707 Some models require Vibration Damper P/N 67700059 or Housing Kit P/N 67700093. Some folks here just replace the rubber mounts with nylon washers from the hardware store. |
Since the headlight is mounted at one point, on a part of the bike that's connected to the front end, on a bike that's know for vibrating, I'm surprised it doesn't shake itself of the mount. I've wanted to figure a way to make a mount on 2 or 3 places to make it more steady, without it looking like crap.

Headlamp shaking
Thanks guys.
I'll look into it. |
you might want to try some 3m double sided foam tape around the circumference of the trim ring. I encountered the same problem with my last bike and was able to dampen the vibration with the foam tape. It too began to happen when I swapped out the factory trim ring with the larger frenched in Harley custom trim ring.

Headlamp shaking
The light shakes the same with the stock unit or daymaker. I did put some tape round the rim and that stopped the DM unit moving in the cowl. I think I'll go for some different fixings

I had work colleagues mention that it appeared as if the light was flashing on and off at high frequency, and I could see it on the garage wall with the bike idling. |
I fixed my light shaking problem by taking out the lamp and tightening the three nuts from the inside really tight. It's now perfect.

There's three rubbers in the mount, and they are very soft, and although the stock light might move by hand the same, I doubt that it will do the same when on a bumpy road, .... the LED has a tighter focus and cut-off which makes the movement much more apparent in the light beam.
