Triple Tree?

Greetings,

I have an FLD with 41mm forks. Can one have the holes in the triple tree be routed out to be 43mm forks without sacrificing stability or strength of the triple tree?

Thanks!

Might be a risk without engineering math.
The 41mm could have been built to cost.
In other words, just enough material to limit failure.
There is a lot of force on the triple trees.

Less risk, find 43mm replacements.

Your call, yet I for one would be hesitant as failure would be horrible.

Kind of my assumption as well. Wasn't sure if people went this route or not though.

I would just buy a triple tree for the 43mm forks, or just buy the whole 43mm front end. It isn't that hard to swap out the front ends.

Agree, however I'm trying to be mindful of still being able to use the nacelle for the FLD. I have no idea if going to bigger triple trees will still allow this.

even if you could do this you would still have to make spacers and buy a different axle i would think. might be better and cheaper (and safer) to just put a late model road king or heritage front end on it.

Tired

If I was not so tired I would show you what is necessary to put a FatBob set of trees into a FLD nacelle. Unless you have mad skills on fabricating and can make a new skin you are looking at a huge project. To get 43mm fork tubes with a conventional fork to work with your FLD would require a large amount of expenditure. I can do Ohlins conventional 43mm forks but someone must make the triple tres to fit. I cut the nacelle to hell because I am not going to deal with the forks to be that poor handling.
