Default Michelin Commander II's tire wear results after 13.2 K on our Heritage

I just changed out my Michelin Commander II's tires two days ago..

My first 4 Dunlops 401's REAR tires lasted 10K each.. the rear Mich's Commands II's lasted 13,200 which was better wearing, but was cupped pretty bad for the last 3-4 K and had right at 2/32nd's tread left...

My first 2 Dunlops 402's on the FRONT went 20K miles easy and still had almost 3/32nd's tread left and could have went more if I wanted to leave them on....BUT at 13K the front Commands II's was worn out and cupped more than the rear and need replaced ASAP.. it only had right at 1/32nd's left.

I went with some of the newer Dunlops American Touring Elites this time.. I'll see how they do...

I've run the michelin the last 3 times I've gotten tires. They've lasted longer, handled better and rode better. Unless something newer comes down the pike, I'm sold.

My last bike had the MCII tires and after 10k miles on the tires and 15k miles on the bike they had at about 40% of the tread still left on it when I sold it. This past Friday I just had a new pair if MCIIs put on this bike. The bike has 11k on it now. I really like them.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the CII...I have on American elites now.

My stock dunlops lasted 5k (rear) and 10k (front). I replaced them with Avons, and the rear has lasted nearly 7k now (and will be done in under 1k more). I don't know how you guys are getting so many miles out of your stockers!

My MCIIs went no further than stockers. Got the American Elites on now, we will see how they do. So far the ride is better IMO, but new tires always feel better at first. Time will tell.

I replaced my original rear stock tire on my Ultra at 16,300 miles and I still have the original front tire on at 21,500 miles with plenty of tread left. The Dunlop Elite has been a very good tire for me.

It's funny how different folk have different experiences with the tyres. The Dunlops for me were shockingly bad; terrible grip and fast to wear. I was expecting the former (as apparently they are designed for average US weather and road conditions, which are a poor match for UK/Europe). But I expected to get more miles out of them as a result.

Avons are superior to Dunlop (FOR ME) in every respect; better grip, better longevity. Oh yes, and they were actually CHEAPER than the Dunlops. Win-win-win

If you have the commander II tires, and were running the dunlops before watch your self in wet weather they are a harder tire and last longer, but do not stick as good in the rain and if you ride hard they will give you a thrill when you are not ready.

The harder the tire compound, the longer they will last but handling will be sacrificed. Since the OP as a Softail (Heritage), handling is not as important as something that is able to take corners at a higher rate of speed with more lean angle.

The other difference is how warm the tires are getting. If you are riding at 85 mph on the Florida highways in the middle of July, you are going to get less mileage out of them if you were riding at 55 mph on the Maine highways in early spring.
