Default Hi from Minnesota!

I'm a writer currently working on a romance novel featuring a hero who is a Harley Davidson mechanic and a heroine who manages an HD dealership. As always when working on a writing project, I find myself with questions research alone can't answer. That's when I turn to the experts who have firsthand experience with whatever subject currently in my WIP (work in progress). In this instance, I will need to know about HD motorcycles from time to time.

I'm hoping as my questions come up, I can ask them on these boards and get good answers, without being picked on too much for my ignorance.

I don't ride, but I do know someone who is a member of Hamsters USA. Does that get me any cred?

Welcome to the forum, however, if you really want to know about HD and the mentality that comes with it....you should really get out and try it out....it is not something that can be explained...its a feeling....an experience...

The best research is ride...

Thanks. I do understand that, but it's not feasible for me.

Most of what I need to know deals more with the capabilities for the machine, not so much the lifestyle. For example, I was wondering the other day if a Harley could do 90 mph towing a small pop up camper. The model is never specified in the book, so I'm hoping I can get away with that. Yes, I know it's unsafe and so does my character, but it's a case of distracted driving. This scene led to a secondary question about whether or not a HD would have cruise control. I'm assuming yes, but really don't know.

Anyway, for the most part that would be the type of info I'd be looking for.

Welcome from Maryland. As Roadblock said get out and ride. You might get answers to your questions, but you need to feel the wind in your hair to really get it. Remember, you can rent a bike; you don't have to buy one for your research, but you'll probably want to when you are done.
