Default If you had a machinist at your disposal...

What custom part or parts would you ask him to make for your bike, I'm not taking about new heads or engines but maybe some bolt on goodies to either give your HP a boost or just to make your bike truly custom?

My friend is magic in the machine shop and he told me to tell him what I want. It will be going on a 2014 limited

Thanks
Dave

It's your bike - what do you want on it? A geegaw or something that has a function?

Something easy with CNC would be matching fuel cover and derby cover. What ever design you like.

I'm a hobbyist machinist these days. In a former life I was a journey level job shop machinist. It was "Whatever Was Required" and we needed to figure it out, and all on pre war manual machines. No CNC stuff.

So I have a lathe, milling machine and a host of other power tools in my arsenal. They've paid for themselves for certain.

Here's a shot of one of my latest projects. It began life as an '87 Sportster. Used and abused, I got it cheap. Now I'm transforming it into something.....different.

Up front, a Suzuki GSXR inverted fork with a custom machined tree carved from bar stock. Along with handlebar mounts, a custom axle to adapt a Sportster front hub which has a Suzuki disc adapted to that. The goal is to produce something without spending a bunch of money on stuff I can make myself.

The possibilities are many. Just depends on how much time and effort your buddy wants to invest!

About as far in the corner as you can get. 7 miles from MN.. and 5 miles from ND.
I also have a buddy that is a instructor for machine tooling. I like the H-D Motor Co. derby covers and thought the fuel cover to match would look good. I like the one of stuff that differs from what can be bought off the shelf.
Mike's looks very interesting to me.

I love the way my bike looks, just the way it is. However, there are times when I need to carry enough gear to last me a weekend or more. I'd have a bolt on rack that I could easily add and remove and yet strong enough to carry a large bag of some sort.

Custom floorboards and matching passenger and highway pegs. Not sure of what design or if anything else would need to match....maybe match the derby cover and air cleaner inserts, maybe tie it in with the clutch and brake levers. Custom badges wold be cool, too..."Pop's Hog" would look neat.
