Default Old yard harley

I bought an old Harley in a yard with no real known history. The owner died 10 years ago and it sat inside a trailer home for years. It has a clean SC title but the vin number looks like some type of salvage, rebuilt something. It is a '96 softail, evo. All I know, 10k on odometer. Vin # SCDHPT506911, very clean stamping. Any clues? South Carolina rebuild?

That's not a stock from the factory vin number. It looks like what you have might have been issued by South Carolina, to a aftermarket frame. If it's able to be registrar-ed I guess that's all that matters.,,

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is still familiarly known as the Highway Department, which is what the agency was called until May 13, 1977 when an act of the South Carolina General Assembly reformed the agency as the Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SCDHPT).[2]

Did you get the title yet? When you go to the DMV ask them about the history. They should have all of that info right there.

It's just a 'home built' or 'Special Construction' (in some states.)

And you'll have to insure it that way. To the insurance folks, it's not a 'Harley'.
