Default Riding Boots

I have noticed that my boots are caving in on the toe of the left boot. They are the standard over-the ankle leather boots. Obviously, it's from the shifting. I'll probably put a new pair of boots on my Christmas list, but I wonder if I need to get something with a steel toe? Any thought on this?

I think steel toe boots would prevent that. I have worn steel toe boots for years and have never had my boots do that.

Heel toe shift prevents it pretty well.

You shouldn't be shifting with the very end of the boot to begin with. Use the joint between your big toe and the front of the arch on your foot.

I'd get a steel toe before I'd get a heel shifter. I'm sure if I had it, I'd still shift with my toe.

I found out that with a different shifter peg with a metal bottom rather than the round rubber stock one I have way less wear on my boots. First thing I do when I get a new bike is take off the heel/toe shifter. Not a fan of them at all.

You can find boots with extra caps on them as well if you are shifting with your toes. You can also find plenty of boots with a shifter pad on them as well.

I just ordered a custom pair of Wesco's, but have to wait until February to get them.

Having bad knees, hips, and ankles, I try to minimize as much weight on my feet as possible. Having worn steel toes at work for 17+ years, I am tired of them, but to answer you question, yes they will stop the toe from falling.

If you ride in much cold weather get the composite safety toe, not the steel toe. Cold weather and steel toe boots suck very bad.

I thought the same thing when my '14 Ultra came stock with the heel/toe. I decided to try it a few months before I removed the heel portion. Long story short, the heel/toe remained and I'm liking it more & more.

lost my big toe due to a bone infection caused by diabetes, so that's out, lol. and you shouldn't wear steel toe boots, incase of and accident and the toe part can crimp and cut all your toes off. i'm happy to have my heel shifter on my fatboy. before i used to shift and i'd have to turn my foot in to do it because sometimes with my toe not being there it would go into neutral from first.
