GPS updates

For those of you who have the Rushmore built in GPS does the dealership charge a fee to update the maps or can it be done with your own lap top for free? Thanks.

You have to purchase the upgrades. I believe those with the CVO may get one free upgrade. The rest of us have to purchase the upgrades. I have not done so yet, but I believe it can be done yourself, not too different perhaps than upgrading the operating software, except you'd pay $150 or whatever the upgrade costs. I expect you'd download the files to a thumb drive and from there to your nav system.

System updates are free and available from HD's website.

Map updates are not free unless you have a CVO model which gets at least one free update.
For all other models, you can have to purchase the update.
You can run the update yourself if you want.

Charging for map updates is pretty common for all vehicle manufactures that have built in GPS systems.

Another thing to keep in mind is the updates are usually not as "up to date" as stand alone Garmin units or Google Maps.
