Default Total heart break

Today was promised to be warm and sunny by my local weather dude. I had big plans to go for a ride today. My wife and I went for breakfast and it was overcast and foggy. When we got home it didn't look good so I decided to polish the bike and get the winter dust off.

While polishing my rear heat shield my hand went up toward the top of my exhaust and banged into something and it rattled around a bit. I take a closer look and it is my exhaust clamp just handing there. One nut was gone and the other was barley hanging on. At this point my wife come out of the house to find out what all the swearing was about.

I tighten the remaining nut down and do a frantic search of my house for a nut that will get me by until I can get the right nut from the dealer. I find one I think will work and bolt it on. It is not sitting right so I back it out but the damage was done, the nut was the wrong size and I stripped the bolt. I try using the good nut to re thread the bolt but it was to cramped to get it right. I end up taking the whole rear exhaust off to get some room and I am able to re thread the bolt so I dodged a bullet there but I am still one nut short and I have nothing else in the house to try. I surrender that I will not get the bike back together today. While I was doing this the sun came out and the temperature jumped up to a perfect riding temp.

So now instead of riding on a perfect day I am here talking to you guys.

So go to a hardware store and get the right nut. You don't have to use a nut from Harley.

I can only imagine being down to one nut. Do you really need two nuts, or can you get by with one, assuming it's a good one, that is?

As already suggested I'd head to a local hardware store or Lowes. The only other thing I'd suggest is a stainless steel one to avoid corrosion.

And change the avatar to an ACE. Possibly the ace of......hearts.
True Value, NAPA, Advanced Auto, Auto Zone and then Pep Boys... Manny Moe or Jack should have a spare nut.

Glad you can only imagine it. Have a friend that was in an accident, SO, he swears you can get by with one good nut.
