extended warranties

I'm interested in buying a 2007 harley dyna street bob with 34,500 miles on it. the dealer is trying to sell me an extended warranty, 2 years for $1,400. my question should i buy this. i probably would put about 2 to 3,000 miles on it per year.

they're asking $8,000 for it,is this a good deal??

I wouldn't. You don't put enough mileage on it, nor is the cost of the ESP vs price of bike worth it.

I think the price is high, but typical of dealer pricing. Its about KBB retail book. NADA retail book is $6900ish. I'd offer $6k and if I really liked the bike & just had to have it, I would go mid to high $6s for the bike. I would definitely pass on the warranty.

Offer $6500 for the bike. Settle on $6800. Pass on the warranty.

Pass on the warranty. If you don't want to do your own maintenance, with the mileage you average, it would be cheaper to just pay the maintenance charge at the time of service, vs. the warranty.

...don't offer to pay for repairs in advance.

is that the price with the warranty? You can always pay for the warranty and then cancel and get money back pro-rated.

Never buy a used bike from a dealer.

If the dealer thinks that the used bike needs an extended warranty, pass on both the bike and the dealer.

I agree don't buy from dealer unless you know person who traded in or someone at dealer. Look for a private sale you could do better . $8000 for that bike with 35000 miles is to much unless there is a lot of extras .
