Painting kickstand orange

I'm thinking about painting my kickstand (or jiffy stand or side stand or whatever the heck Harley wants to call it) dayglo orange.

My bike is a vivid black Road King.

Anybody got any suggestions of a good brand and/or type of paint I should use? Something that's gonna stand up pretty well to road grime and dirt and resist scuff marks from my boots.

Thanks

Whats the purpose or the point. If your going to do it,powder coat it for durability. Please post picture after its done.Might start a fad,but I doubt it.

That would be different for sure. I question whether you would be able to keep paint on it without it peeling/chipping off constantly. But, I'm no expert...JMO. Painting it may be an on going process to keep it looking nice. I like the powder coat idea if you are set on doing it.

Or get a chrome one, the paint will just peel off. powder coat, as said above is your best hope. sounds like you are trying to do this inexpensively? thats usually the most expensive way!

I think you can get it powder coated for around 30-40 bucks. Powder coat will hold up a lot better and its not that expensive. If you did it yourself...cost of paint, other supplies and gas, your probably into it for the same amount and still wont be as durable as powder coating.

I would like to see the pics afterward. Day glo orange seems a bit disconcerting on a vivid black bike. Fortunately if you don't like it afterward you can always have it rechromed.

I have a question. Why?

I hadn't really considered powder coating. If I go that route I'll buy a new one and get it powder coated before installing it (minimize downtime for the bike).

as to why? well, it's mostly to help keep a cat away from the bike (this cat hates orange things - actually runs away from the color)

Have you considered a black and orange bike cover?

It seems easier than purchasing a new jiffy stand, powder coating it and installing it. A dayglo orange jiffy stand may not have the look you are wanting :icon_shrug:

Might be easier to put a couple of orange traffic cones next to the bike.
