hi folks im in a nice place just know when it comes to my bank balance and its burning a hole in my pocket . now i have a fxdxi dyna in good nick and I'm thinking about getting the gear driven cam conversion with a set of high torque cams , but I'm getting the urge to trade her in for a street or fat bob cause of the 103 engine ,
has anyone done the jump and regretted it as i read loads of guys on here saying the wish they had never got rid of this bike wish i hadn't done that kind of thing

your thoughts ,, my current bike is a fxdxi dyna with a stage 1 and 20,000 on the clock

as you didn't state the year of your bike, before you go gear drive, make absolutely sure of the runout of your crankshaft. it is a big issue, and installing gears on a badly elliptical shaft, is a big problem. they bind, break teeth take out pumps. that being said, if everything is straight, cams alone are not going to be the pill you may be looking for, some work good with stock comp. others do not. Most all big cams need better breathing, possibly port/polishing kind of stuff, bigger valves maybe. its a downward spiral that once you start the end is expensive if done right. Just be ready and prepared. Maybe the other bike could in the long run be a better fit for you

or you could just go with the new dyna low rider s. that'll give you a 110....

personally i would just put new cams and tensioners and skip the gear drive. That is if you are just wanting more power. If you just want a new bike because you want a new bike then just do, life is short

i traded an 06 88" with cams, 30/70 gearing and a good exhaust for a stock 103 '14 and the 06 would walk all over the '14. and this was provin at the drag strip at test and tune night.

Overall i am happy with the trade because my 06 had 85,000 hard miles and it was starting to develop some issues, plus like i said before i just had to have a new bike

20k miles on a 11 year old bike, you might as well keep it as is and don't spend any money on it other than gas.

Anything else will be a waste.
