Are police spotlights different?

I bought a 2008 Road King Police FLHP and they removed the blue/red spotlights for public sale

In looking for new clear lights I am told that a standard 4.5" light will not fit?
I find this a bit difficult to believe that police lights are a special dimension

It measures 4.5 and has a 3 pin connector

I believe most Passing Lamps are two wire.... Hot and ground.

IIRC, the left spot was steady and the right one flashed on the police bikes.

According to the 2008 Police Service Manual Supplement you should have 2 wires for the pursuit/spot lights. Power should be GY/BK and the same for each side unless you have the strobe package. It looks like the strobe package has the 3 wire connector that you mentioned. Here's the wiring diagrams for both. Hope this helps.

AFAIK the standard red/blue bulbs are interchangeable with the clear spot light but I don't know about strobes.
This is from the bulb chart for the 2008 police model but I don't see a listing for the strobes.

Just my luck and I was hoping that I could simply plug in the standard HD lights and be on my merry way.

Wiring is my weak suit!
Looks a bit complicated to change the strobe system to a civilian spotlight system?

I would think it might take a little forethought and planning... But, really, it's probably just removing the strobe controller and replacing the three wires with two, run to the proper location.

The toughest part is making sure you have the correct connectors for the bulbs, the rest can be done with crimp on connectors.

If the power supply is still on the bike and connected, disconnect the main fuse and the fuse on the unit. Let it sit and bleed off the power stored in the capacitors. Those dang things will give you a bit of a poke.

Thanks to all for the help and colour blind or not, and going to give it a go!

Since I am going to need a new bulb connector is the light something HD specific, or can I buy an auto one somewhere like NAPA?
