Default Help on tank fit!

Ok so have a chance to buy a wide glide tank for cheap and it is in perfect condition. Issue it it is from a 93-94 wide glide and I am trying 5o put it on a 2000 wide glide. All the measurements seem to be spot on the only difference is the petcock is located toward the front of the left side of the tank in the 93 and it is at the rear of the tank on the 2000. Harley said the tank won't fit but I am failing to see why as the speedometer mount is the same on both as well.

There are so many parts that will fit, when Harley claims they won't. You might need a longer fuel line but if it fits, it fits regardless of what Harley says. I needed a front brake line for a 2002 1200S and was told that it was discontinued. I bought a line for a 2007 Roadster and it is identical.

If the paint is different Harley will say it doesn't fit....

I had a Shovel FLT (1980) that I turned into a RoadKing look alike.... I used a mid-90's gas tank. No way harley would have told me it fit. It fit like a glove and worked great for the fifteen years after that.

Sometimes you gotta go with what you see and not what Harley tells you. There used to be a book put out every few years that had a list off all the parts that were interchangeable. Can't remember the name of the book or the last time I ever needed it. But, it was priceless to me back in the day!

Wasn't that book called "What Fits What" or something like that?

Yeah: https://www.amazon.com/What-fits-wha.../dp/0933078048

The only one I've found (with the two minutes I spent on it) was the 36-83 version.
