Default What model for daily commute on interstate?

Hey all,

I have been riding a boulevard s50 on the interstate about 30 miles per day for my daily commute with another 50 miles down urban 2 lanes. I'm looking at my next purchase and I have decided to go Harley.

I'm tired of getting blown around on the interstate. I have sat on the dyna and the softail models but have stayed away from the touring line so far. Will all 3 of these frames handle the interstate well? I'm 5'10" and 180, so the thought of a 700lb plus bike is a little intimidating. Also have to ride a bit on gravel 1/10 a mile on my daily commute as well as walk the bike around in gravel a bit, so I would think the touring would be too much to handle.

I ride a Street Glide 50 miles each way to work most days with the majority of it on the interstate. Only change I did was a long ride 9" shield. Might do soft lowers as well when it gets cool out. Regardless it's a great ride.

Just about any model would fit that bill. Depends on your budget, too.

For my money, if I were looking at a new Harley I'd be looking at a Fatboy S, Slim S or Road King.

Will it be parked in a garage or some place that makes for easy access and pulling out (dirty minds think what you will)? My Fatboy is kind of big and heavy to drag out (that's what MY dirty mind thinks) for my daily commute, but I make it happen most days because once I'm out and riding, my whole day just seems to go better after that. For a daily commuter, I would actually like to have something like the new Roadster or other Sportster because I have a relatively short commute, and it's weight and size would expedite getting it out from around back in the morning and getting around cars better once out on the road.

Buy my Super Glide, which will soon be listed in the classifieds . . . J/K

Any big twin will do that job well.

I'm buying a Road King. I think it would be a good choice. Weight is down low, lightest of the touring bikes, but handles the highway with ease. Room for stuff you take to work in the saddlebags. Only you can decide if you want fairing, lowers, tourpack, etc. Me, not at all.

I ride my fatboy year round, 60 miles a day. When it was getting worked on I'd ride my wife's Superglide custom which has a windshield, bags etc and it worked just as well. I'm 6'2" so it's a little small for me but I was comfortable enough to commute on her bike.

Tenth of a mile is nothing but I found that the fatter tire fares better on the gravel.

I've commuted on everything from 400cc metrics to my current bike (FLHST).

They all work. It's really a question of personal preference.

They all will work. The Heritage gets you a lot of bike for the money in a Softail frame which is easier to handle at low speeds and parking lots.

It already comes with comfortable handlebars, windshield, saddlebags, cruise, ABS, etc plus they lowered the price on it for 2016.

How often do you ride, and what type of riding do you do when you're not commuting? Even a Sportster will handle the interstate. If you do 2 up riding and longer distance when you're not commuting you might want to go bigger, like a Dyna or Softail.
