Default 2005 Dyna Advice Please

I'm real close to buying a fuel injected 2005 Dyna Wide Glide with about 24,000 miles on it. From reading in this forum, I'm aware of the cam chain tensioner and valve seal issues with this year and model. I'm wondering if there is any way to tell just by riding and listening to the bike if there is impending doom in my future if I buy this bike.

Any advice on this purchase would be welcome.

I bought a new 2005 fuel injected Dyna and put 45,000 miles on it in 4 years without a single issue. All I did was change oil (engine, primary, trans), spark plugs and air filter. It was one of the best bikes I have ever owned.

No, the tensioners will need to be inspected and to do so will require you to open the motor up. Another caveat about this particular model is that there is a possibility that the fuel line in the tank will develop a pinhole leak and will need to be replaced. Also be aware that that is an odd year for seats. Only 04-05 will fit without modification so a search for a used seat is very limited. Good luck.

Default 02 wideglide

I bought my bike with 33k miles and didn't inspect the cam chain tensioners until after I bought it. When I opened the cam chest they were one third gone. Upgraded to the SE Hyd. tensioners for $800. installed, parts and labor. So just figure to ask seller to reduce the price for at least $800. just for the upgrade or replacement.
