Default Should I be worried about this tire?

American Elite rear with 7,000 miles. Just noticed this small crack tonight and have an upcoming trip to Sturgis next month......

"Worried?" Nah. Just keep an eye on it for changes. If it does grow, then get interested.

Why does it have a crack? How old is the tire?

Face it bro, this worries you and it would me too. If it lasted another 10,000 mi, I'd be preoccupied every inch of the way. Tires can de-laminate.

Drill a hole through the tire at each end of the crack so the crack won't propagate. If that doesn't work, replace the tire.

Just my $0.02

2015 tire....not sure what caused the crack.

I expect Ron is referring to the date code (year and week) stamped into the side of the tire. You can google up a vid or pic in pretty short order if you're not sure where to look.

Yes I just looked and it was manufactured in 2015.

Good that you saw it. Now, it does not look like a cut so the other option is separation. If you ride mostly local then look at it every-time you ride. If you are a freeway rider then have it looked at now...
