Is the air filter clean?

I remember with my old Honda that I hadn't realised which way the choke worked and that caused the bike to run for a few minutes and then run out of power, usually as I tried to ride it.

Just pull the baffle,or as they used to call them "spark arrester" out of the expansion chamber and try that.

Muffler plugged up is a very sure bet. Without the baffle they are very loud and raspy. However, it sounds like the bike has been sitting a while. That means the baffles will probably be "rusted in". Plan on tearing up the muffler to get the baffle out. There are replacements, if not stock/direct for that bike so it's not a huge issue.
