This afternoon, I pull up to a red light in the right hand lane of a two-lane turn at an intersection. A lady in a white minivan is in the left lane chatting on her phone--left elbow propped up on window, cell phone to ear. It's a long light so there is plenty of time to watch her cajoling and laughing with whomever it is on the other end. Behind her is a police cruiser that she could clearly see if she was just paying a little bit of attention. It's a big white SUV with lights. She has to be completely oblivious not to notice. But she does it anyways--the light turns green, we all start moving and she immediately starts drifting out of her lane into mine as the turn progresses. She completely cuts me off and continues ahead as if nothing happened. Flashing lights, blast of the siren. Classic and Priceless.
Normally, I would say we have all made mistakes on the road and nobody is perfect. But as many times as I have been cut off by this kind of stuff with oblivious drivers, when I saw those lights I was like yesssssss !!!
If you didn't notice a big white Police SUV behind you then you have to be totally out of it.
I used to lane split looking for texters, some are getting wise by putting the phone in their lap. I had no problem seeing the phone from my bike. "Aw ****" look when they noticed me.
States that allow dark tint on front windows makes it ideal for phone users to hide from cops.
It was a $156 fine back then.
