Default Oil Out of Air Cleaner After Heavy Rain

Got caught in a big rain storm. CEL came on during way home, but went off before I got home. CEL came on 5 minutes after leaving the house this morning. Oil is coming out of air cleaner. Advice? Thoughts?

What bike?

The crankcase vents into the intake, so oil out of the air cleaner is common.

My mistake. I didn't realize signatures didn't post when on mobile.

2012 Street Bob. No changes on the bike since the first 1,000 miles, got 15k or so miles on the bike. Just a really heavy rain storm. Bike did sputter a little bit in the rain, but runs just fine right now.

I understand a little bit of oil coming out of the air filter, but this is kind of a lot to me. What concerns me most is the Check Engine Light (CEL). Think it's just water getting in through the air filter? It's running fine, feels right... other than the oil coming out... Think if I just change the oil it'll clear?

First thing I would do it clean the air filter really well and make sure the passages in the back-plate weren't clogged. That filter looks nasty...Pull it all, give it a good clean and make sure the rubber tubes are able to vent in to the throttle body as designed.

Aren't you supposed to run a rain sock on a filter like that?

When a air filter gets wet or oily it starts to pull air from the head breathers instead of the filter. Less resistance than pulling through a dirty clogged element. Please get a rain sock.

I have a SE Heavy Breather and I always use a rain sock and have never had any issues with any rain getting into the bike.

He corrected his original post to "head breathers" and blamed it on spellcheck.
